Our mission at Wise One’s is to bridge the generational gap by creating a nurturing space where elders, and preschoolers aged 2 to 6 flourish side by side through an intergenerational Montessori approach. Rooted in the values of connection, creativity, support, and well-being, we commit to providing a unique blend of Montessori education and intentional interaction. We believe that the insights and experiences of our elders are precious gifts to be shared, and the boundless wonder of our children inspires transformation. Through our physical location and innovative partnership programs, we empower our community to learn, play, and co-create, honoring the deep human need for connection and collaboration. Together, we celebrate the timeless village spirit that enriches lives and propels us all to thrive.
Problem Statement:
Denver, Colorado, like many other communities, faces the challenge of a growing gap and disassociation between the elderly population and the younger generations. This disconnect can have several negative consequences for both age groups and the community as a whole:
- Social Isolation and Loneliness: Many elderly individuals in our community often find themselves isolated and lonely due to factors such as the loss of loved ones, limited mobility, or retirement. This isolation can lead to depression and negatively impact their overall well-being.
- Limited Intergenerational Interaction: The lack of opportunities for interaction between older adults and youth contributes to a lack of understanding and empathy between these generations. This can perpetuate stereotypes and misunderstandings, as well as deplete the inherent value that comes from wisdom and playfulness sharing time and space together.
- Unmet Needs: Seniors may have unmet physical, emotional, and social needs that can be addressed through appropriate care and engagement. These needs often go unrecognized, leading to a decline in their quality joy, ease, and fulfillment of the end season of life.
- Community Fragmentation: The absence of intergenerational connections within our community can result in fragmentation and a lack of a sense of belonging among residents. Building stronger connections between older and younger generations can help foster a more cohesive and vibrant community.
Our Solution:
Our adult day center seeks to bridge this generational gap and address these pressing issues by providing a welcoming and inclusive environment where seniors and youth can come together, share experiences, have fun, and support each other. Through carefully designed programs and activities, we aim to:
- Combat Social Isolation: Our center offers a social hub where seniors can engage with their peers and interact with younger individuals in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere, reducing feelings of isolation, loss of creative expression, and loneliness.
- Foster Intergenerational Bonds: We create opportunities for meaningful interactions between seniors and youth through shared activities, educational programs, and collaborative projects, promoting understanding and empathy across generations.
- Address Unmet Needs: Our dedicated staff and volunteers are trained to identify and cater to the unique physical, emotional, and social needs of our senior participants, enhancing their overall well-being.
- Strengthen Community Cohesion: By actively involving seniors and youth in community projects and initiatives, we contribute to a more connected and vibrant community, where everyone feels valued and included.
By addressing these issues and fostering a sense of community, our adult day center aims to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of our participants and communities.
